About WFC
I've been a Montreal web designer for a few years now, and I've developed quite the opinion about what web design should be. Many web designers seem to become too focused on a particular area of web design, be it, backend, frontend, standards, flash, etc. What many designers fail to realize is that every web page needs a reason to be, a real goal. Websites have to be designed for a particular audience, always keeping in mind the audience's life-cycle - and why they come to your site. By ignoring these basic facts, many sites fail to be truly "user-centric", or usable on the most basic level. What use is validating code, if your audience gets lost in the navigation? This blog is my way of getting on a soap box and preaching what I believe is the formula for a properly designed website:
Working Web Design = Usability + Accessibility + Content
I'll try my best to dig up the best articles and news items every week and share them with you - and hopefully, we can advance the web design community together.
I've recently started a new feature, "Quick Audits", where I review Montreal designed websites and audit them for usability, accessibility and standards-compliance. I always e-mail the webmasters/owners of the site my comments, and post any of there replies for all to read. My intension is never to be nasty, or insulting. I only want help improve the quality of Montreal designed sites. However, sometimes you have to be blunt and to the point. I simply want clients to get their money's worth.
